Chi Alpha End of the Year Bar-b-que

This Monday, April 30th we will be having our Annual Chi Alpha End of the Year Bar-b-que. There will be all kinds of food and tons of fun games to play at the park.
The cost is $2 to help pay for the price of the meat that will be grilled and there will also be a sign up at Chi Alpha tonight to bring chips, drinks, desserts and side items.
We will meet at the Presidential ATM at 5pm on Monday to carpool to the park. See you there!

what is it? Reach the U (RUI) is intensive training for campus ministry that happens each summer in Springfield, Missouri. There are different tracks available for new and current campus leaders, pioneers, and church staff to give you specialized skills for outreach. At the same time is a special RUI student weekend of training in campus ministry.

This discipleship class is based on Joy Schroeder's Tool's for Mentoring and is packed with wisdom from the Bible from a woman who knows what it is to live for Christ on a college campus.

Southeast SALT Conference

Coming up we have the Southeast SALT Conference from December 28th- January 1st in Atlanta, GA. The cost of the trip is going to be about $200.00, this includes the hotel cost, conference cost, food and travel expense. We just wanted to let everyone know that the annual Chi Alpha Thanksgiving Dinner is comming up on November 16th. The dinner will be at 7:00pm at the Knoxville Christian Center off of Ceadar Bluff road. We will be picking up students who need a ride at 6:30pm on campus at the Presidential ATM. This is by far one of the most fun things we will do with Chi Alpha all year long and everyone is welcome to invite all of their friends. There will be food, desserts, skits, and all kinds of fun things and its a good way to invite friends and let them come and get plugged in by meeting other Chi Alpha peeps. March for Africa

The March for Africa is comming up on November 11th. If you want to sign-up please email me and get a registration sheet. The deadline for early registration (aka- $20 registration) is October 28th. After the 28th, the cost to register goes up to $25.00 per person.

If you didn't get a chance to send out sponsorship letters, we still have plenty to go around. I'd be happy to give you as many as you need, just let me know.

Also, we need people who are registered for the March to volunteer to help with Check-in, registration, water, breakfast, and other general things the day of the event. Let me know if you are interested.

Cry Africa is Up and Running

Hey Everyone, We have officially kicked of Cry Africa for the year with an amazing message by Terry Allen to explain the heart of what Cry Africa is about and an awesome offering given by the students of Chi Alpha last Thursday night towards the effort. We also had a great first Cry Africa table today in Humanities Pedestrian Walk-way. Many people gave towards our effort and we have many more interested in the March for Africa comming up on November 11th. Make sure to stop by the Cry Africa table next Monday from 2-4pm in the Humanities Walk-way and help out or just say hello and show your support. A giant thank you to everyone who is already working hard for Cry Africa and the March for Africa. Let's keep up the good work and bless these people that we may never see, but God surely cares for.

Life's Greatest Decision- Knowing Jesus

Two great moments in our lives are when we are born and when we discover why we were born. We were created for a reason—a divine purpose. Our lives are not accidents or fate. God has a personal plan for each of us. His purpose in our lives can only be accomplished because of Jesus Christ.
The life of Christ calls for a decision. Was He just a great teacher and spiritual leader? Or was He who He claimed to be — the Son of God who has the power to forgive sin and grant everlasting life to all who will believe on Him? Jesus said, “I am the way and the truth and the life.”
Life has only two roads, and we are on one of them. One leads to death and eternal punishment—the other to everlasting life.
Jesus Christ taught that every person will exist for eternity. The apostle Paul wrote to the Roman Christians: “For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord (Romans 3:23).” He also taught that being saved from sin’s penalty is simple: “If you confess with your mouth, ‘Jesus is Lord,’ and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved (Romans 10:13).”
We all know in our hearts that we have sinned. Even if we have never read a Bible or do not understand what it means to sin against God we can know we are sinners, because God created each of us with a conscience. We know what we don’t want others to do to us. We don’t want them to steal our possessions, lie about us or be unkind to us. When we do to someone what we don’t want done to us, our conscience lets us know we have done wrong.
The penalty for sin is death. That is why all people die. But 2,000 years ago, Jesus Christ, the holy Son of God, became a man. For 33 years He lived without sin. Then He was killed. He paid the penalty for sin without committing the crime. So death had no power over Him. After three days, He came back to life again.
He is alive! And now He offers forgiveness of sin and the gift of everlasting life to everyone who will ask Him.
You can receive Christ as your Savior right now, this moment! You don’t have to be in a church or special place. You can pray now, wherever you are. God is listening. Tell Him in your own words that you are sorry for your sins and that you want to receive Jesus Christ as your Savior and Lord. Ask God to help you change your heart and life.

MOSAIC was a blast!

Just wanted to give everyone an update from our International Student Conference MOSAIC. It was a blast. We met people from nations all over the world, we did American things like square dancing, we spend a day in Washington DC, which was absolutely beautiful, and two of our students came to know Christ, one of them was even baptised in the Holy Spirit! How awesome is that! Thanks everyone for your prayers!

Hey Everyone,
Just wanted to get you thinking about the upcomming Fall Semester. I just wanted everyone to be on the lookout for people at your church, jobs, or whatever that might be comming to UT in the fall. This is a great opportunity to go ahead and let them have a friend when they get here, and we can also get a jump on getting them plugged into our fellowship. In the past few years a very small percentage of the students we were given contact info for from churches in Tennessee have become involved in our fellowship or any other. It is important that we go ahead and build these relationships now so that these new students can have a solid foundation to grow in Christ when they come to campus! Good luck meeting new friends!

Cry Africa This Week

This week we will be taking up donations to fight AIDS in Africa on Thursday in the Humanities Mall from 1pm to 3:30pm. We need everyone who can to help us. So far we have raised over $250 from doing this. We have also ordered Cry Africa wristbands to sell which are comming soon. We need everyone to pull together on this effort so that we can see our total of $7,000 raised last year blow out of the water! Please contact Jennifer for more information about how you can help!

Cry Africa

Hey everyone, We are starting Cry Africa up again. Cry Africa is working to send vehincles packed with medical and educational supplies for AIDS relief in the hard to reach areas of Africa. Information about how to have a relationship with Jesus is going out as these missionaries minister to the needs of AIDS victims. Last year we raised over $7,000 from our Chi Alpha here at UT and this year we want to surpass that!
This week we will be taking pledges for Cry Africa and for Chi Alpha during our thursday night service. Please be praying about what God would have you give. Just think, if every student pledged 100 dollars then we would have $4,000 even before we started fundraising! It's possible to see God move in Africa!
There will also be lots of fundraisers comming up to help raise money to support Cry Africa and next semester we will have the second of our annual Cry Africa Walk-a-thons! Can't wait to see what God will enable us to do this year!

Winter Retreat 2006

Hey everyone! We will be having our winter retreat in Gatlinburg, TN this year with Tennessee Tech and Middle Tennessee State University Chi Alphas!
The dates for the trip are February 17th-19th. We will leave after classes on Friday evening and return Sunday afternoon! The cost of the trip is $55!
